Lesson Plan for 2013-11-13: Defending Back Takes

On Monday I taught how to deal with different stages of someone trying to get side control. James Briggs immediately used that knowledge during open mat and made himself twice as hard for me to establish side control. It’s a great class when I am forced to wonder if it was a good idea to show students how to kill my own angles.

Tonight, we are going to deal with defending back takes. As with everything else, there are appropriate responses at different stages of the attack. Last week I showed everyone how to take and maintain the back, and now we are going to try to prevent points and positional dominance when someone wants your back.

Let’s hit the mats and make great blue belts!
